I'll skip the lecture about how Mother's Day is "more than just a gift." It is, but it's also a gift. And every year about 30 million Americans wait until the last week to figure out what to buy. So if that's you — same. Let's just get this done.
This guide covers what's actually selling out, what's still on shelves at Capital Region stores as of late April 2026, and what to do if you strike out. We're focusing on Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Troy — the four anchor cities most ScoutRun customers shop from.
Quick note on timing:
If you're shopping the week of May 4-10, expect the popular stuff to be gone by Wednesday. Stanley cups in the new spring colors, sold-out Lululemon Aligns, the limited Sephora gift sets — these tend to evaporate the second they hit shelves. Earlier in the week is better. Earlier in the day is better.
What moms are actually asking for in 2026
Based on what we're seeing in restock data, social trends, and the items Capital Region customers are searching for right now, here are the categories where demand is highest:
- Drinkware: Stanley H2.0 FlowState Quenchers (especially the seasonal pastels), Yeti Rambler tumblers in matte spring colors, Owala FreeSip bottles
- Athleisure: Lululemon Align leggings, Lululemon Define jacket, the new Lululemon Wunder Train collection
- Beauty gift sets: Sephora Favorites Mother's Day exclusives, Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream sets, Drunk Elephant kits
- Practical luxuries: Trader Joe's flower bouquets (especially peonies, eucalyptus, and the seasonal hydrangeas), Williams Sonoma cookware, local Capital Region candles
- Jewelry: Mejuri pieces, gold huggie hoops, name-personalized necklaces from local jewelers
Below, here's where to find each category in the Capital Region — what stores actually carry these items, and which ones to skip.
Drinkware: Stanley, Yeti, Owala
Target — Crossgates Commons (Albany)
The Crossgates Commons Target gets Stanley restocks on Tuesdays and Fridays. As of late April, the spring pastel Quenchers (lavender, sage, peach) are restocking but selling out within 2-3 hours. Yeti Rambler tumblers in the spring colorways are easier to find — they tend to sit on shelves longer because they're priced higher.
If you're going in person, hit the front of the store first. Stanley sets up endcaps for seasonal collections.
Target — Glenmont and Latham
Both locations carry the same Stanley + Yeti lineup but tend to restock less aggressively than Crossgates Commons. If Crossgates is picked clean, Glenmont is your next call. Latham is hit or miss — sometimes they have full pallets, sometimes nothing.
Dick's Sporting Goods — Crossgates Mall
Better selection of Yeti than most Targets — they carry the larger tumblers and the Hopper coolers, plus a wider color range. Limited Stanley selection but worth checking if Target is sold out.
Lululemon and athleisure
Lululemon — Crossgates Mall
The only standalone Lululemon in the Capital Region. Aligns in popular sizes (4, 6, 8) sell out fastest — especially in trending colors. Define jackets are easier to find. The new spring 2026 collection just dropped, so there's still some availability.
Tip: if a specific size is out, ask an associate to check the back. They often have stock that hasn't hit the floor yet. Also worth asking if they can transfer from another store — Lululemon is one of the few retailers that will still do this.
If Lululemon is sold out:
Athleta at Stuyvesant Plaza (Albany) carries similar high-end activewear with comparable quality — their Salutation tights are a popular Lulu Align alternative. Vuori at Crossgates Mall is another option, slightly more "weekend casual" than performance.
Beauty and skincare gift sets
Sephora — Colonie Center
The flagship Capital Region Sephora. Sephora's Mother's Day exclusive gift sets typically launch about 3 weeks out, so they should be on shelves now. The Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk set, the Drunk Elephant Mom Squad, and the Sephora Favorites Beauty Insider boxes are typically the first to go.
Pro tip: Sephora gift sets often come with extra-deluxe samples this time of year. The "value" framing is real — a $75 set can include $130+ worth of full-size and deluxe samples.
Sephora at Kohl's — Latham and Clifton Park
Smaller selection than Colonie Center but often less picked over for last-minute gifts. Worth checking if you find Colonie sold out. Both carry the bigger gift sets but skip some of the brand exclusives.
Ulta Beauty — multiple locations
Ulta's Mother's Day gift sets are different from Sephora's lineup — more drugstore brands mixed with prestige. Solid choice if you want to mix a luxury skincare item with a more accessible gift.
Flowers (without the gas station vibe)
Trader Joe's — Wolf Road, Albany
Capital Region's not-so-secret flower hack. TJ's flower selection during Mother's Day week is legitimately impressive: $7-15 bouquets that look like $40 grocery store arrangements. Peonies, eucalyptus, ranunculus, and hydrangeas are the standouts. Get there in the morning — they sell out by mid-afternoon on Mother's Day weekend.
Price Chopper / Market 32 — multiple locations
Don't overlook the local supermarket flower section, especially Market 32's bigger stores. Their Mother's Day arrangements are often pre-built and reasonably priced. Less curated than TJ's, but they don't sell out as fast.
Renaissance Floral — Saratoga Springs
If you want a real, hand-arranged bouquet from a local florist, this is the move in Saratoga. They do custom arrangements and same-day delivery within Saratoga County. Order by Friday May 8 for Mother's Day weekend pickup.
Local jewelry and unique gifts
Northshire Bookstore — Saratoga Springs
For the mom who reads. Northshire carries curated bestsellers, gift books, and stationery — plus they wrap. A signed copy of one of her favorite authors is a much better gift than another candle.
Stuyvesant Plaza — Albany
If you don't know what to get, Stuyvesant Plaza is the play. It's an outdoor shopping center with about 60 mostly local boutiques — Persnickety, Country Drug, Open Door Bookstore, Plumb Oyster Bar. You can usually find something thoughtful within 30 minutes. Most stores wrap.
What to do when everything is sold out
Here's the reality: by Friday May 8, the popular Stanley colors, the trending Sephora sets, and the trending Lululemon items will mostly be gone from the obvious places. If you've struck out at Target Crossgates and Sephora Colonie Center, here's what works:
- Try the less-obvious locations first. Glenmont, Niskayuna, and Clifton Park Targets often have stock when Crossgates is wiped out. Sephora at Kohl's locations stay stocked longer than the standalone store.
- Call before driving. Almost every Capital Region store will check stock for you on the phone. Save yourself the gas.
- Check at-store-only inventory online. Target's app shows real-time store inventory. Filter by your location, search the item, and you'll see exactly which stores have it. Same with Best Buy.
- Pivot to a different category. If she wanted a Stanley but they're all gone, the new Owala FreeSip bottles are arguably nicer and easier to find. If the Lululemon Align is sold out in her size, the Athleta Salutation is a real alternative.
- Use a Scout. If you're reading this on Saturday morning May 9 and your shelves are empty, this is what ScoutRun is for. Submit a hunt with what you're looking for, a Capital Region Scout will check stores you don't have time to drive to, and they'll deliver to your door same-day. First hunt is free with code FIRST10.
One last thing: shipping doesn't work for Mother's Day
If you're tempted to "just order it on Amazon" — pause. As of late April 2026, Amazon Prime same-day in the Capital Region is unreliable for the popular Mother's Day items. The same Stanley pastel that's sold out in your local Target is also out at Amazon, and the third-party resellers are charging 2-3x retail. By the time you find a legitimate listing, you're paying more than retail and crossing your fingers it ships.
Local works better when the goal is "this needs to arrive by Sunday." Drive there yourself, send a Scout, or call the store and ask them to hold it.
Need a Scout to grab something for Mother's Day?
If you've struck out at the obvious stores, a local ScoutRun Scout can hunt down what you need across the Capital Region — and deliver it same-day. First hunt is free with code FIRST10.
Start a HuntMother's Day in the Capital Region doesn't have to be stressful. The shelves are stocked, the stores are open, and even if you wait until the last weekend, there are options. The trick is knowing where to look — or having someone who does.
Good luck out there. Don't forget to write in the card.
